I love seeing how people live. Decorating publications are one of my true guilty pleasures and I can easily lose an afternoon dissecting pictures in home decorating books and magazines. Here are a few of my favorite books of the moment.

Domino The Book of Decorating-

(Deborah Needleman, Sara Ruffin Costello and Dara Caponigro)

This was my first decorating book, and a longtime favorite. There aren’t many of us that can remember when Domino Magazine first went to print, and the heartbreak we felt when it was cancelled. Well, the magazine is back, and the book is an excellent anthology of the magazines first years of publication.

Elements of Style-

Erin Gates

Decorating with a few recipes thrown in. Like Domino, this book is a well-edited collection of rooms with a purpose. The homes pictured look lived-in and not so perfect. I hate when magazines show homes that are so perfectly styled, real live humans couldn’t possibly live within the space. Gates decorating eye is clean and colorful, I highly recommend this book for people that aren’t sure where to start.

Style and Substance: The Best of Elle Décor

Margaret Russell

A collection of rooms that range from the minimal bright white studios, to the dark opulent gilded spaces. This book had large glossy pictures, and inspiring

Vogue Living: Houses, Gardens, People

Hamish Bowles

Beautiful homes of beautiful people, that is all.

I’m having a bit of an obsession with mint right now, and I have J.Crew to blame. These “lovely” little jewelry trays were from a seasonal sale that popped up the J.Crew website for a hot minute, then they were gone. I’ve since seen several similar items on the website and in my local J.Crew factory store. They are really taking their home goods up a notch, and I love it!

The other pretty things I’ve pulled out in time for spring are my Kikki-K personal planner in mint and a few favorite jewels from Kenneth Jay Lane and Judith Ripka. If you’re going to do costume jewelry, KJL is the only way. I’ve had this compact mirror for over 8 years and it’s still perfect. The corsage cuff bracelet is around 6 years old, and the spring clasp is still tight and strong.

Judith Ripka earrings and ring in mint quartz were a gift, and I can no longer find them online. There are numerous similar items at QVC.com.
