This past week I was finally able to take out a few open-toe shoes from the dark recesses of the closet. To get my feet warm weather worthy, I reached for Avocado Foot Crème from Nailtiques. Its one of the few products I’ve found specifically for feet, that doesn’t smell like mint. I don’t have a problem with mintscented creams, but because I use these products at night, I feel like the minty aroma gets trapped in the sheets for days. Sometimes it’s so fragrant I hesitate to take deep breaths to relax, as mint is not the most sleep inducing scent.

Nailitques Avocado Foot Crème ($15.00)

This cream from Nailtiques is awesome in both the scent, and moisturizing texture. It feels like a like whipped mousse, as opposed to a heavy cream. It sinks into the skin quickly without leaving a greasy residue. After using a few nights with socks, my feet feel much softer and more hydrated. The fresh scent doesn’t compete with other scented products I wear, nor does it linger. I have to also comment on the packaging. I’ve never seen a more luxurious jar of foot cream! The heavy frosted plastic looks great on the bathroom counter and it’s a pleasure to reach for it after a bath.

Jouer is a smaller brand I’ve been using for several years now. They’re known for click-together compacts that are perfect for travel. I have several of these pre-made collections, but all of their makeup can be stacked and interchanged in a moment’s notice.

The Sunday Brunch Collection is a new one to my collection, and I used this past weekend with pretty good results.

The blush in the shade Blossom is a peachy-pink with a satin finish. While not the longest lasting blush on the cheeks, I do think it’s decent and the color is lovely.

This is one of the few collections that come with a highlighting shade. This one is called Tiare and it’s pale gold in color. The creamy formula is lightweight and long lasting on the skin. It made my cheeks glowing without looking greasy and I like this highlighter formula so much I’ve recently purchased another shade in Champagne.

I believe one of the strongest products for Jouer, are the eyeshadows. Every color I’ve purchased is soft and blends easily. The shade in this collection is Caramel, and it’s a soft golden brown. It’s not much on the eye, but it adds a satin finish that is perfect for a quick everyday look.

The gloss that comes with this kit is Sunset, and it’s a bronzy nude with shimmer. While nice on it’s own, I paired it up with the Jouer lipstick in Monique. The gloss on the lips is a thin formula, and it didn’t last well. On top of a lipstick, the longevity is much better, and it does add moisture to the lips.

For the complete look, I’m also wearing:

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Syracuse -($45.00)

Jouer Mattifying Bronzer in Sunswept -($30.00)

Jouer Hydrating Lipstick in Monique- ($24.00)

Dior Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara- ($28.50)

Rimmel London ScandalEyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bootleg Brown- ($4.50)

Stila Convertible Color Palette in Field of Florals- ($49.00)

There is no better cream blush formula than the Stila Convertible Colors. It’s the only cream blush I’ve tried that has a dewy finish, but is also long lasting. Most cream formulas are a cream-to-powder finish, or have a staining effect. Those that are meant to offer glow usually melt off the face within minutes. (Typically taking the foundation underneath with it.)

Stila however, have mastered a creamy consistency that lasts on the cheeks, is comfortable on the lips and remains dewy on the skin without looking greasy. When I saw this Limited-Edition Palette, I jumped at the chance to own most of the Convertible Colors in one go. They are all pigmented, and offer the same texture quality of the Convertible Color singles. Like most great things, this palette is limited. I hope it sticks around through the summer; once the Sephora VIB Rouge sale starts, I think this palette will go quickly.

Swatches in order from top-bottom in palette: (3 columns of 4)

1st column (in palette): Lillium, Camellia, Gladiola, Gerbera

2nd column: Magnolia, Peony, Peach Blossom, Petunia

3rd column: Tulip, Rose, Hibiscus, Fuchsia

Bobbi Brown Face Touch Up Palette ($48.00)

Bobbi Brown recently introduced an even more portable way to travel with your foundation necessities. The new palm-sized Face Touch-Up Palette is an all-in-one face base. It includes all the face fixers you’d need to cancel out darkness, hide spots, cover discoloration, and even a powder to set the creamy products in place.

The Foundation Stick:

The colors correspond to the popular Bobbi Brown foundation Sticks. My BB foundation stick is one of my favorites for travel. You don’t have to worry about glass bottles breaking or leaking and it’s easy to apply with minimal tools. My usual shade is Honey, and that’s what I ordered in the palette. It’s full coverage without looking dry on my skin. Most full coverage products look heavy and dull.

The Corrector:

It is to be used under the eyes to cancel out dark circles. I love the color and consistency of this corrector. Because it’s meant for under the eye, it’s not drying. It’s a peachy pink color that helps to cancel out dark circles.

The Creamy Concealer:

The concealer is great for any errant spot that pops up during the day. It’s slightly thicker and dryer than the foundation stick and it gives even more coverage.

Sheer Finish Pressed Powder:

This palette came with the pale yellow shade. I’ve owned this in full size several years ago. There are many better powders on the market now, but I love the fact that this tiny palette comes with a setting powder, it makes it truly an all-in-one touch up kit.

There are two lip looks that seem to be popping up everywhere right now: Bright orangey-reds and Matte finishes.

Nars Red Square is a longtime favorite of mine. I’ve worn it for the past few summers and I always have someone stop to ask what shade it is. It’s the perfect orange/red lip that most people can pull off. Orange is a tricky color on the lips, as it often can make teeth look yellow if it’s too warm toned. I’ve found three drugstore versions that are perfect if you want to give this trend a go without shelling out $26.00 for Nars.

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil- Red Square ($26.00)

The formula is dry and long lasting. This lip color is the least forgiving if you haven’t exfoliated. Better whip out your sugar lip scrub. I love the Nars Velvet Lip Pencil because it stays all day with no touch ups. I never have to worry about this one traveling outside the lip line, even when lunch gets messy.

Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color

685 Craving Coral ($7.99)

This drugstore gem is the closest in similarity to the Nars. The formula is thin, but opaque in one pass. For the price, it’s an awesome dupe to Red Square.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet- 03 Hot Pepper ($16.00)

Bourjois has a wide distribution at drugstores in Europe; however, in the US we have to order them online. The Rouge Edition Velvet is a great one to try if you’re new to liquid lipsticks. It has a jelly formula that comes out of the tube quite thin. With just a single layer you can achieve a lip stain, but with a few additional swipes it builds to an opaque matte finish. It’s very comfortable on the lips, and the staying power is 4-6 hours for me.

Milani Color Statment Moisture Matte Lipstick

66 Matte Passion ($5.99)

Milani has only recently introduced their line of matte lipsticks. Matte Passion stood out to me instantly in it’s bright gold packaging. At only $5.99 a tube, I was really surprised by the quality and richness of color. It is opaque in one pass, and lasted on the lips 4-6 hours. I haven’t tried any other colors in this range yet, but if they are all as good as Matte Passion, I may need them all!

Whenever someone asks me for a blush recommendation, I often direct them to Hourglass. It’s not because of the enormous shade selection, or the portability. (I’ve had one shatter in a makeup bag.) I recommend them because these blushes are foolproof.

Just like the Ambient Lighting Powders by Hourglass, these blushes can be layered seamlessly. It never looks too bright, and gives the skin a beautiful glow. Each shade is a traditional powder blush swirled with a glowing corresponding powder from the Ambient Lighting range. The result of this mix is a beautiful litfrom-within glow on the cheeks. It’s hard to go overboard with these flattering colors.
